Beardsley Reservior - Frequent Asked Questions (FAQ's)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs) – BEARDSLEY RESERVOIR

Important Update: Please see the latest Reservoir Updates and Operating Notices – Tri-Dam Project for current information.
Note: This page will be updated regularly as new questions arise. Last Updated: June 12, 2026.

Is there a timeline for when the reservoir will reopen for boat launching?

At this time, Beardsley Reservoir remains closed to trailered vessel launching. Tri-Dam continues to evaluate available science, monitoring data, prevention strategies, and operational considerations and will provide updates as additional information becomes available.

Has the Golden Mussel been found in Beardsley Reservoir?

No. There have been no confirmed detections of the Golden Mussel in Beardsley. The closure was implemented as a precautionary measure after water sampling data identified Beardsley as a moderate-risk reservoir for aquatic invasive species. This action is consistent with statewide prevention protocols.

Are motorized watercraft allowed?

Some watercraft equipped with electric trolling motors may be eligible under the self-inspection and self-certification program, provided they are transported to the reservoir without a trailer.

Watercraft transported on a trailer remain prohibited from launching while the current closure remains in effect.

Are non-motorized watercraft allowed?

Yes. Eligible watercraft transported to the reservoir without a trailer may launch after completing the self-inspection and self-certification process. Examples include kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, rowboats, float tubes, inflatable watercraft, cartop boats, small aluminum fishing boats, and similar watercraft.

Prior to launching, users must complete a Self-Inspection and Self-Certification Form and deposit the completed certification portion in the kiosk located at the Beardsley Day Use Area.

What watercraft are eligible for the self-certification program?

Eligible watercraft include those transported to the reservoir without a trailer, such as kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, rowboats, float tubes, inflatable watercraft, cartop boats, small aluminum fishing boats, and similar watercraft. Some watercraft equipped with electric trolling motors may also be eligible provided they are not transported on a trailer.

Where do I obtain and submit the self-certification form?

Forms may be downloaded from the Tri-Dam website or obtained at the Beardsley Day Use Area self-inspection kiosk. Completed certification forms must be deposited in the kiosk prior to launching. Users should retain the permit portion as instructed.

Can I launch a small sailboat without a motor or CF number?

Only if the vessel is transported to the reservoir without a trailer and complies with the self-inspection and self-certification requirements.

Vessels transported on a trailer are not currently eligible for launching at Beardsley Reservoir.

Can I still fish and swim at Beardsley?

Yes. Recreational fishing is allowed from the shoreline or from an approved non-motorized watercraft as outlined above.  Swimming is also allowed.

What should I do if I find a suspected invasive species in Beardsley?

Please report any suspected aquatic invasive species immediately:
